One of the reasons we’re using Google’s calendar is that this makes it very easy to import the Dynamo calendar into Outlook, our own Google calendar, or even our smartphones. For those of us with busy lives, this can be a real help.
Why link to the calendar?
- You don’t have to retype everything!
- If the calendar changes, your copy will be updated, too.
- As soon as we publish updates, you’ll get them automatically.
Why are there multiple calendars?
Since we’ve got several practice groups, and the “Gold” swimmers don’t necessarily need to know when the “White” group is practicing, we separate the calendars. This way, you can subscribe to “Gold”, and you won’t see everyone else’s schedule on your calendar. Note that there’s also a “Dynamo Swim Team” calendar that has events for the whole team, so you’ll want to subscribe to this one, too.
How do I use the calendars?
For each of these instructions, you’ll need to know the web address of the calendar you want to connect to. These are given in the “ICS links” section below. “ICS”, by the way, stands for Internet Calendar Sharing – this is a protocol made popular by Apple, but it’s very common in calendar applications these days, so if you don’t see your application listed below, just search its name plus “ICS”, and you’ll probably find instructions.

Google Calendar instructions (to link your own Google Calendar to Dynamo’s)
- In your Google Calendar, under “Other calendars”, click “Add”, then “Add by URL”
- Fill in the URL you want from one of the links below
- Click “Ok” and wait a little bit for it to be uploaded
Other calendar applications should work in a similar way, using one of the links below. If you need help, let me know.
What are the ICS links?
The links below will let you connect to the Dynamo calendars. The easiest way to use these links is to right-click and choose “Copy Shortcut”, “Copy Link Location”, or “Copy Link Address”, depending on your browser. The first link in each line is a secure, https link – this will work in Google calendar and some other apps. Try this one first. If you have problems, you can try the “Outlook” link, which is the same address, but using http (not secured).
